Just Listen by Sarah Dessen

Don’t think or judge, just listen.

Resume: Annabel is an average girl used to be popular and have popular friends and a model (like her sisters). For others her family was a perfect family where they eat dinner all together and everybody could see their union because of their glass house. During summer, everything turned upside down and Annabel once again keeps everything for her. Until she meets Owen, a guy music obsessed and that always says the truth and what he thinks. That’s when Annabel’s life starts changing again!

Silence is so freaking loud”

First time reading Sarah Dessen and I enjoy this book.

I really didn’t liked how slow paced the story was and how annoying sometimes I felt because of Annabel. She keeps everything to herself. She can’t stand the idea of saying that she thinks or feels. Let’s just say she only changes at the end. YES! Around 300 pages of reading how much she wanted to say anything but didn’t have the strenght to do so.

I really liked Owen. He takes his music so seriously and is so honest. He can’t stand the idea of lie while Annabel lies to not say the truth. They way Annabel and Owen developed was really interesting. Not just as characters but as couple. It wasn’t insta-love or like they were destined to be together. Nope. They were “forced” to be together and both lonely at school. Everything was build very slowly.

Another strong point of this story was the dramas and how you stopped to reflect about them. The development of all characters is amazing too. We never think “Why did she made this character? It wasn’t necessary” because all of them were important during the book.

I can’t promise this will be your favorite book but I can tell you this is a remarkable book.
