“She could be the ocean. He didn’t mind drowning.”
Resume: Fresh out of prison after serving a three-year sentence, Johnathan Marcello wants to get back to normal business as a mafia capo. The rules set out for him are clear—keep out of trouble, maintain a low profile, and stay stable. Siena Calabrese’s life revolves around cooking numbers, and scrubbing books clean. After all, a girl is only useful to men in the mafia, if she isn’t totally useless. As long as she does what they want, then she can maintain the illusion of freedom.
“You’re not a disgrace to this family. You could never be, John”
I love books where the plot is around mafia. It’s hard to find good books though. Books with details and imagination. Bethany-Kris wrote them and I fell in love. John and Sienna are my favorite couple and book so far.
I love this duet. John is everything a character needs. A bit messy, a bit fragile, a bit funny, a bit strong, a bit bad guy but a really big good guy. He really stole the scene. John is bipolar and the way the author wrote this story, how the author made us see how bipolar people can be, is simply fantastic. John gives us so many feelings, it’s impossible to not love him.
Sienna is a good girlfriend for him. She’s strong but soft and delicate. She has patience to support and understand John. She loves him and does what she can to protect him and show him he isn’t a disgrace or a crazy person. She really is the other half, I can’t imagine John having someone that isn’t her.
The story itself was a bit slow paced for my taste but at same time, I can’t complain because the author gave what she could to john: the start, the dark moment, the fall, the recovery, the restart, the fight and that sweet happy ending.
